Superintendent's Message

Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members,

As we spring into the final stretch of the school year, we're thrilled to share the exciting events and updates happening throughout the month. May is brimming with opportunities for connection, celebration, and community engagement. From our upcoming Community BBQ to important updates on our Elementary Principal search, there's plenty to look forward to as we continue to foster a thriving educational environment for our students and families. Read on to stay informed and involved in all the happenings at Columbia School District!

First, Friday, May 10th there will be no school as it’s a Professional Development Day for staff. Also, due to a “snow day” closure back in December, we'll be making up for lost time by holding classes on Friday, May 24th. Please mark your calendars accordingly and remind your students that school is in session on May 24th. The last day of school remains unchanged and will still be on Wednesday, June 12th. Let's finish this academic year strong together, embracing every opportunity for learning and growth.

Spring weather means it’s BBQ time. Get ready to fire up the grills and gather 'round, because one of Columbia School District's most beloved traditions is back! Save the date for Thursday, May 9th, as we cordially invite our entire community to join us for an unforgettable afternoon at our annual Community BBQ, taking place on the CMS playground. It's a celebration of our vibrant community, where neighbors, friends, and local organizations come together to share in the spirit of togetherness. From mouthwatering meals to toe-tapping tunes, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to keep an eye on your emails and social media feeds for updates on lunch release times and performance schedules. We'll be serving up all the details on our district website, Facebook Page, and in your inbox soon, so stay tuned for more exciting announcements! Let's make memories and moments to cherish at this year's Community BBQ. Can’t wait to see you there!

Finally, as we bid a fond farewell to Mr. Ian Yale, who has led our beloved Columbia Elementary School with dedication and excellence for an incredible twenty years, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his invaluable contributions to our district. Mr. Yale's leadership has left an indelible mark on our school community, and we wish him nothing but the best in his new journey in Las Vegas. Now, as we embark on the search for our next outstanding leader, we invite you to join us for community feedback and interview sessions. Your input is invaluable as we seek to find the perfect candidate to fill Mr. Yale's shoes and continue the legacy of excellence at Columbia Elementary School. Please mark your calendars for our community feedback meeting on May 9th at 6 PM in the CES Cafeteria, where we'll be there to listen to your feedback regarding the next principal. Stay tuned for additional details later this month if you are interested in learning more about the interview process. Your voice matters, and together, we'll ensure a bright future for our school. Thank you for your continued support and engagement in this important process!

Todd Hilberg,
Superintendent
