Shaping the Future

Columbia High School Auditorium Update

Posted Date: 12/05/25 (02:22 PM)

Coyote families and community,
Earlier this week, a piece of our high school auditorium lighting equipment failed. This is the second time in the past twelve months that this component has failed, which continues to show how difficult it has become to maintain a system that is more than two decades old. Because the auditorium lighting relies on this equipment, we temporarily had no operational lights in the space.
Our team has been working closely with technicians to locate replacement parts, something that is increasingly challenging due to the age of the system. While long-term solutions will eventually be needed, we are continuing to do everything we can to keep the facility functional for our students and community. We are happy to share that, after repairs and replacements to parts of our lighting system, the main auditorium lights are now working again. This means we will be able to hold next week’s holiday performances in the auditorium as originally planned.
At the same time, we want to be transparent about one remaining limitation. Unfortunately, the floor lighting system is no longer operational. Due to the ongoing equipment malfunctions, the floor lights will no longer be operational moving forward. The overhead lighting system is functioning and safe to use, but the floor-level fixtures will remain out of service.
We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we worked through these challenges over the past several days. Our goal is always to ensure a positive and safe experience for our students, staff, and families, and we are grateful for the community’s support as we navigate aging infrastructure equipment in the auditorium. We look forward to seeing you at our holiday performances next week and celebrating the hard work of our students.
